The fight for the 2024 PRCA tie-down roping gold buckles will come down to Round 10 of the 2024 NFR. After Round 9, there are three calf ropers that still have a fighting chance at winning this year’s world title, and it’s practically anyone’s game.
Riley Webb leads the world standings with $380,129.26. Shad Mayfield is second with $356,657.59. Haven Meged is third with $332,370.46. Ty Harris is in fourth with $327,426.63, but cannot catch the world standings leader unless Webb falls out of the average race.
Webb, Mayfield, Meged and Harris still have a shot at the world titles, with Webb being the projected world champion after Round 9. While there are hundreds of scenarios that could happen in Round 10 to determine the world champion, CalfRoping.com worked through a few for the Top 4 calf ropers in the world to see how things could play out, comparing each team to standings leader Webb.
Riley Webb Predictions:
Riley Webb is currently No. 1 in the average with a time of 71.40 seconds on nine head, which is 9.8 seconds ahead of No. 2 man, Shane Hanchey. While anything could happen in Round 10, Webb cannot fall any farther than 10th in the average.
Shad Mayfield Predictions:
Say Webb wins the average race, but doesn’t place in Round 10. In order for Shad Mayfield to catch Webb in the world standings, he must place no lower than second in Round 10 and no lower than third in the average. Mayfield is currently seated No. 5 in the average, 2.3 seconds behind Quade Hiatt and Haven Meged.
Haven Meged Predictions:
After Round 9, Haven Meged is $47,757 behind Webb in the world standings race. If Webb and Mayfield fall completely out of the average race and Haven Meged holds his 3/4 split in the average, Meged could win the world without placing in Round 10. If Webb wins the average, Meged does not have a shot at the world title, even if he wins Round 10.
Ty Harris Predictions:
After placing second in Round 9, Harris is $52,702.63 behind Webb. If Webb wins the average, Harris does not have a shot at the world title. However, if Webb, Mayfield and Meged fall out of the average, Harris could finish third in the average, earning $55,420.84. If this scenario plays out, Harris would not need to earn a check in Round 10 to win the world title.
