Tonight in Round 4 of the 2025 NFR, the top 15 calf ropers will run the same pen of calves they ran in Round 1, the medium pen.
CalfRoping.com talked with two-time NFR qualifier, Trent Walls about what he expects tonight in the calf roping.
“Tonight will be one of those nights that if it starts off fast, it will be an insane round of calf roping,” Walls said. “I think the round is between Marty, Haven and Dylan. Shad could be the spoiler.”
These calves will run in Rounds 1, 4, 7 and 10.
Watch the 2025 NFR Calf Break-in
Brushton Minton: 7
Zack Jongbloed was 10.1 on this calf in Round 1. Average/medium, ties good
Trent’s take: Brushton has the calf that the strongest man in the world (Zack Jongbloed) had in Round 1. Zack rolled him and kind of had it slow getting up. That’s a good calf.
Tom Crouse: 41
Dylan Hancock was 9.3 on this calf in Round 1. Average, steps right.
Trent’s take: I bet Tom “Cruise” will come in with a vengeance tonight. That calf fits him really well.
Marty Yates: 35
Kincade Henry was 9.8 on this calf in Round 1. Average plus
Trent’s take: Marty has the calf we talk about tying fast. She leaves hard. He has the one to get the day money on.
Riley Pruitt: 69
Haven Meged was 10.2 on this calf in Round 1. Average/medium
Trent’s take: Riley’s got the calf that kicked Haven.
Dylan Hancock: 55
Riley Webb split third in Round 1 with a 7.9 on this calf. Good, ties good
Trent’s take: Dylan Hancock is probably going to win the round. I’ll just throw that out there. He’s got Riley’s first calf. She takes a step left, which is why Riley jerked her down. If Dylan does his thing and turns her around, he will win the round.
John Douch: 16
Tom Crouse was 7.9 on this calf in Round 1 to place. Average, good on the end
Trent’s take: John has a good calf that fits him.
Kyle Lucas: 21
Kyle has the calf Shad Mayfield won Round 1 on with a 6.8. Good start, super good on the ground.
Trent’s take: Kyle has just been struggling. Let’s not talk about him and maybe it will go better.
Kincade Henry: 56
Kyle Lucas two looped this calf in Round 1.
Trent’s take: I talked to Kincade for a while last night about getting Mario off the corner. That’s the only thing he’s struggled with here. Kincade flanks and ties so good that it’s all about his start. I think tonights calf will fit him. He’s just an average start calf. Shad had to pull up just a little bit but the calf is super good on the ground.
Shad Mayfield: 17
Joel Harris was 7.6 in Round 1 on this calf to place second. Great calf, great on ground
Trent’s take: Shad has the calf JB (Joel Braden) won second on. He’s got a great calf that fits him great. Shad is drawing the heck out of calves. They all leave good and straight and he’s doing his job.
Riley Webb: 30
Riley Pruitt was a no-time on this calf in Round 1. Calf strained.
Trent’s take: Riley Webb is tonights mystery. I’m going to call it, last night was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen in calf roping. Riley can tie this calf in six, but this is also the calf that jumped at the gates. Riley Pruitt two looped her and she kind of lost her mind and he couldn’t get the tie.
Ty Harris: 52
Shane Hanchey was 9.8 on this calf in Round 1. Average start, good on ground
Shane Hanchey: 65
Brushton Minton was fifth in Round 1 on this calf. Great calf
Haven Meged: 48
Ty Harris had this calf in Round 1. He used both loops and was long.
Trent’s take: Haven will win the round if he hits the barrier. He has the calf Ty missed. Super fast calf. She’s also fast handling. I look for him to have a moment like Riley Webb did last night.
Zack Jongbloed: 44
Marty Yates snagged last hole in Round 1 on this calf with an 8.1. Great calf
Trent’s take: Zack has Marty’s first one. The strongest man in the world (Zack) finally has a great calf, so I’m hoping that he can get him some day money.
Joel Harris: 60
John Douch had this calf in Round 1. He was 9.3. Average, good on ground
Trent’s take: JB has the little red girl. I don’t know that I expect him to win anything on this calf, but JB is probably the most freakish person in the pack next to Riley Webb. Shad is doing great things and has been for a long time, but JB came when we broke these calves in and ran probably 50% of them. I didn’t know that I was JB’s biggest fan ever, but I am. I expect him to be 8.2 tonight.
