Shad Mayfield won $100,000 for his second The American Rodeo tie-down roping title Saturday, March 9, 2024, four years following his first in 2020.
Mayfield was the third man out in the four-man round and blasted his calf in 7.06 seconds to take the lead. Prior to the 2020 world champion, California’s Cody Jones turned in a no-time, and Riley Webb, the reigning world champion, tied his calf in 8.22 seconds. The 2019 World Champion and NFR arena-record holder Haven Meged was hot on Mayfield’s heels with a 7.38 as the last man out.
Mayfield was riding his gelding “Platinum” that just helped him win the 2024 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo title.
Mayfield currently leads the PRCA world standings with $95,869.66 won on the year, an impressive $53,635.56 over John Douch at No. 2.
