The smallest pen of calves at the 2025 NFR, the TV pen has two-time NFR Qualifier Trent Walls feeling hopeful that the 6.4-second Thomas and Mack Arena Record will be broken in Round 3.

“It’s hard to pick from these,” Walls said. “They are all 6-and-7-second calves. They weigh in the 210-235 range. I expect Shad or Riley [Webb] to be one of the round winners, with Riley’s calf being the choice to break the record.”

These calves will run in Rounds 3, 6 and 9.

Zack Jongbloed: 39

Sharp, leaves up the middle.

Trent’s take: “Zach has a calf that’s on the strong end of the group, which will fit him. His horse is stronger and he is definitely probably the strongest guy. So I like that matchup.”

Joel Harris: 32

Average, on the slower side.

Trent’s take: “Joel’s calf is like the JV team on athleticism.”

Brushton Minton: 5

Average but travel path unknown.

Trent’s take: “This calf is an add-on, and Brushton could tie her fast.”

Tom Crouse: 64

Average with some hesitation.

Trent’s take: “This calf has fooled the sh*t out of me. She outran Marty at the house, ties great, and today she was just average. Tom could be 6 if he hits the barrier.”

Marty Yates: 43

Average -, slow and lost.

Trent’s take: “Marty’s calf is a little slower. Little slow in the front end too. Just slower handling. I expect Marty to tie that calf in 7.3 just because it’s going to take a second.”

Riley Pruitt: 40

Average, sharp left but John was early.

Trent’s take: “He’s going to make a great run tonight. He should be 7 flat pretty easily.”

Dylan Hancock: 68

Average +, stronger up the middle.

Trent’s take: “Dylan’s got the type of calf that fits him and he could probably do 6.5.”

John Douch: 26

Average -, slower.

Trent’s take: “John’s calf is a bit of a mystery. He’s gotten a little stringer—he was weaker when he got here and now that he’s getting healthy and strong I don’t know what to expect from that calf.”

Kincade Henry: 28

Average -, heads to the right.

Trent’s take: “He’s out of the average, so I expect him to be 6 on this calf. He’s a good calf.”

Shad Mayfield: 6

Average, up the middle and stronger.

Trent’s take: “Shad has a bigger white calf that blasts out of there and is going to fit Shad. I expect Shad or Riley [Webb] to be one of the round winners.”

Kyle Lucas: 38

Average and up the middle.

Trent’s take: “He’s got a calf that can [turn his luck around]. She’s the smallest but the healthiest. She’s the cutest, very kindhearted. And if Kyle gets to his Canadian roots and goes out there and gets it on her fast, he could have a good night. I am really rooting for Kyle tonight, she’s one of my favorite calves. I should give her a trailer park name. Debbie! Debbie does Vegas.”

Riley Webb: 67

Average +, little left.

Trent’s take: “Riley has the calf that I said back when we broke her in, ‘This will be the world record calf if somebody does it right.’ They could get Haven going 6.4 on that calf and Riley is the guy to [break the record]. I don’t know if the third Round is the time to risk that much, but the calf is that good.”

Shane Hanchey: 4

Average +. stronger for the group.

Trent’s take: “That calf will fit him, he should be low 7.”

Haven Meged: 63

Average, heads up the middle.

Trent’s take: “I told him two wraps and a hooey and he should be 7.2. If he lines everything up perfect, he’ll be 6.9.”

Ty Harris: 2

Slow and great.

Trent’s take: “Ty’s calf is in slowmo. it’s going to be awkward, I don’t think he can tie her in 6. She’s great, but she’s so slow moving that I expect him to be 7.3, 7.4.”
