Tyler Calhoun Leads Resistol Rookie Race by $42,329, Sits Top 20 in the World with a Month to Go
Tyler Calhoun has kept his momentum all summer and now has a chance to make his first NFR appearance as a rookie.

Resistol Rookie of the Year contender Tyler Calhoun holds a massive lead in the rookie race and sits on the bubble of the top 15 in the world with $98,150.59 won.

The 19-year-old from Richards, Texas, has had a standout summer, winning $71,188 since the beginning of June. Calhoun currently leads the Resistol Rookie of the Year standings by $42,329.17. After getting the win in Tremonton, Utah, the reigning College National Finals Rodeo tie-down roping champion is on the cusp of his first trip to the NFR in his first year of ProRodeo.

While Calhoun was busy in Casper, WY, picking up a win at the CNFR, he also placed at a few rodeos along the way.

July saw Calhoun make his move to being a contender for his first NFR. He capitalized on his trip to Salt Lake City, UT, to win $10,971 for winning the first round (9.1-second run), second in the second round (9.8-second run), third in the finals (8.1-second run), and second in the average with a time of 18.9 seconds on three head.

Calhoun went on to win Omak, WA, with a 7.6-second run for $3,596, and Tremonton, UT, with a 7.5-second run for $5,711. His winnings in August have pushed him into contention for this first NFR appearance.

“I set a goal of making the NFR and it’s definitely in reach,” Calhoun said in an interview in June 2025. “As far as the rookie title goes, I figured if I go out here and have a good year, it’ll take care of itself.”
