Blayne Saine Electrifies Resistol Rookie Roundup Calf Roping with Back-To-Back Round Wins: Results

Blayne Saine and self-trained gelding Cletus claimed the Resistol Rookie Roundup Calf Roping title with a time of 8.4 seconds in the four-man round, earning a total of $3,372.

The fourth annual Resistol Roundup returns to the Cowtown Coliseum April 25–26, 2025, with rookie calf ropers vying for a part of the a $100,000 purse.

The top 15 permit holders in each event are invited to this exclusive rodeo, which not only includes high-energy opportunities for competition, but career-building events including media training. The main goal? Equip young rodeo athletes for long-term success.

“The Rookie Roundup is a pivotal stepping stone in a young rodeo athlete’s career, giving them the opportunity to gain experience both in and out of the arena—whether through their PRCA headshots, media training or guidance from some of rodeo’s best,” said Mary Jane Carpenter, Brand Director for Resistol.

Resistol Rookie Roundup Calf Roping Results:

First round: 1. Clint Southworth, 9.1 seconds, $1,329; 2. Max Mathis, 9.3, $1,156; 3. Jarvis Demery, 10.1, $982; 4. Haze Wright, 10.3, $809; 5. Daxton Hill, 10.8, $636; 6. Cutter Carpenter, 11.0, $462; 7. Blayne Saine, 11.1, $289; 8. Brody Baugh, 11.6, $116.

 Semi-finals: 1. Blayne Saine, 8.9 seconds, $583; 2. Clint Southworth, 9.6, $437; 3. (tie) Cutter Carpenter and Daxton Hill, 10.3, $219 each. 

Shootout: 1. Blayne Saine, 8.4 seconds, $2,500; 2. Daxton Hill, 8.7, $1,500; 3. Clint Southworth, 9.9, $1,000; no other qualified runs.

Resistol Rookie Roundup Format:

On Friday April 25, all 15 contestants in each event will compete in a single go-round.

The following night, on April 26, the top eight will advance to the semifinals, with the top four to battle it out in the championship round later that evening.

The Resistol Rookie Roundup is airing on the Cowboy Channel starting at 7:00 PM CT on Friday and Saturday April 25–26.

Throwback to the 2024 Resistol Rookie Roundup Calf Roping

Gio Piloto, a 24-year-old tie-down roper from Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil, won the first round of the 2024 Resistol Rookie Roundup with a smoking 7.2-second run, besting the pack by a second and a half.

To this point, Piloto had only won $2,789 on the year, but the Resistol Rookie Roundup added another $1,329 to his earnings. Piloto is a protege of World Champion Marcos Costa, the 2017 PRCA World Champion from Brazil.

It was all about Chance Rodriguez, though, Saturday, April 27, as he took home the 2024 Resistol Rookie Roundup tie-down roping title. The Parrish, Florida, cowboy won the eight-man round with a 9.5-second run to advance to the Finals. Rodriguez remained dominant in the four-man round, taking him the win with a 7.7 for $2,500.
