Ty Harris has been a consistent face at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) since his first appearance in 2019 and has solidified his spot again at the Thomas & Mack Center in 2025.

Before he started out in the PRCA, he was a kid who had to have a rope in his hand at all times. Alongside his siblings—PRCA calf roper Joel and younger brother and sister Wyatt and Cheyenne—the San Angelo, Texas, native spent years traveling the junior rodeo trail.

At Cisco College, Harris made his mark on the college rodeo scene. As a freshman, he came back high call to the College National Finals (CNFR) short round and was crowned the 2018 CNFR champion tie-down roper. That same year, he was named the 2018 Resistol Rookie Tie-Down Roper of the Year and collected wins in Bandera, Texas; Joseph, Oregon; and Canby, Oregon.

In 2019, Harris added big wins across the country, including Reno, Nevada; the Texas Circuit Finals in Waco, Texas; and Walla Walla, Washington. Those wins contributed to his first of seven NFR appearances. Once in Las Vegas, he won both Rounds 5 and 6 and placed in four others.

From 2020–23, the West Texas cowboy added more marquee rodeos to his résumé. In 2020, he won the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson, Mississippi, and finished sixth in the average that year at the NFR. The 2021 Finals saw Harris place in the top six in four of 10 rounds, earning $53,979. His 2022 ProRodeo season included winning checks at Jackson, Mississippi; Sisters, Oregon; and several rodeos in Alberta and British Columbia. Once at the Finals, he placed in two rounds and grabbed a Round 10 win with a 7.2-second run. The 2023 season brought wins in Guymon, Oklahoma; Ponoka, Alberta; and a tie for the win in Salinas, California. At that year’s Finals, he placed in two rounds.

The 2024 season was big for Harris. He kicked off spring with a huge win at RODEOHOUSTON—one he battled his younger brother, Joel, for.

Harris capitalized on the 2024 Cowboy Christmas run and was named high-money earner for his $50,000 week. Two months later, he split the win at the famed Pendleton Round-Up.

“This is a big win for me,” Harris told CalfRoping.com in 2024. “I’ve done well at Pendleton in the past, but this is a marquee win that everyone wants to have on their résumé. It’s been a slow month for me, so it was nice to finish off the Northwest run with a big win.”

At the 2024 NFR, he won Round 3 with a 6.9-second run, tied Marty Yates for the Round 8 win, and split the Round 9 win with brother Joel on Logan Bird’s famous buckskin, Peso.

“This is my third year riding Peso, and it’s my first check on him, so that’s awesome,” Harris told CalfRoping.com after the Round 9 win. “I told my brother, the horse has never made a mistake—he’s never done anything to mess me up. I just hadn’t won on him yet, so I started with something else. But after seeing how good Peso was, I decided to give it a try. Never winning a check on him was all me; he’s always given me a chance to win.”

Harris is headed to his seventh NFR in 2025 in the No. 12 spot with $137,196.54 won this year. The 2025 ProRodeo season has been another winning one for him—tying for the win in Joseph, Oregon; and claiming victories in Eagle, Idaho; Mandan, North Dakota; Castle Rock, Colorado; and a crunch-time win in Poway, California.
